Spurs in bidding war for Fernandes as De Zerbi hunts midfield depth
Tottenham pushing for Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes in midfield overhaul. Spurs ready to outbid Manchester United for Portuguese talent.
Tottenham's making noise in the transfer market, and they're not messing around. The club's pushing hard for Sandro Tonali, even though Newcastle's sitting on a sky-high asking price for the Italian midfielder. But that's not where their shopping list ends—they've also jumped into the race for Mateus Fernandes.
Here's where it gets messy. Manchester United thought they had the inside track on the 21-year-old Portuguese playmaker. West Ham, fresh off relegation, need cash and Fernandes is their biggest sellable asset after impressing in the Premier League. He cost them £38m just last summer when he arrived from Southampton, and honestly, he's been worth every penny.
But Spurs aren't intimidated. They're willing to outbid United when it comes to wages and fees, which tells you something about how much they want him. Real Madrid's also sniffing around, naturally, because it's Fernandes we're talking about here.
Roberto De Zerbi's got the backing and he's not shy about spending it. Two midfield signings are the priority, which makes sense given Tottenham's injury troubles and the need for fresh legs in that part of the pitch. Tonali would be a statement capture—established, international pedigree, the works—but Newcastle's price tag is frankly ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are eyeing Como's Jacobo Ramón, and there's chatter that Tottenham are tracking Summerville as well. The window's getting heated fast, and if Spurs pull off both Tonali and Fernandes, they'll have made a serious statement about their ambitions this summer.
